JEFFERSON CITY, TN — Newberry men's basketball mounted a strong second-half push in a road matchup at Carson–Newman, but the Wolves ultimately fell 79–72. After a slow start, Newberry's offense found rhythm after halftime, outscoring the Eagles 47–44 in the second half and closing the gap in the final minutes. The Wolves finished the night with 72 points and shot an impressive 88.9 percent from the free-throw line (24–27), keeping the game within reach until the final buzzer.
Senior forward Drake Downs led the Wolves with a double-double, finishing with 23 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 9–14 from the field. Drew Robinson added 17 points, providing consistent scoring throughout the contest and helping Newberry stay competitive. Makhi Rivers was nearly perfect at the line, scoring 13 points on 9–10 free throws, while Kayzzin McDowell contributed 12 points and helped keep the Wolves close late. Newberry also totaled 11 assists, showing solid ball movement and offensive execution throughout the second half.
