SALISBURY, NC- Newberry men's basketball battled hard on the road but fell just short in an 82–79 loss to Catawba on Wednesday evening at Goodman Arena. The Wolves trailed 39–35 at halftime but came out in the second half with energy, exchanging multiple lead changes and keeping the game tied on several occasions. With the loss, Newberry's record moved to 8–9 overall and 4–7 in South Atlantic Conference play, while Catawba improved to 13–4 overall and 8–3 in league action.
Drake Downs led the Wolves with a
double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds, including key baskets down the stretch.
Drew Robinson added 14 points with several clutch plays, while
Makhi Rivers contributed 12 points on efficient shooting.
Malakhi Stremlow chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds, helping Newberry maintain a presence in the paint. The Wolves showed resilience and depth, with multiple players stepping up in critical moments. Newberry shot
53.1% from the field (26-49 FG) and
65.6% from the free-throw line (21-32 FT), showing efficiency in their scoring, and outrebounded Catawba
33–30, demonstrating toughness on the glass despite the close result.

Friday, January 23, with a 4 PM tipoff against the Lions of Mars Hill.
