WILSON, NC – The Newberry College volleyball team closed out the Barton College Tournament in style on Saturday, earning back-to-back victories to finish the weekend unbeaten. The Wolves battled to a five-set win over Frostburg State before sweeping host Barton College in straight sets.

In the opener, Newberry outlasted Frostburg 3-2 (24-26, 20-25, 25-17, 27-25, 15-10). Anna Schneider powered the offense with 21 kills and 25 digs, while Samantha Shaffer added 12 kills at a .323 average. Setter Annie Dill dished out 24 assists and chipped in 11 digs, while Hailey Clayworth served two aces and anchored the back row with steady passing. The Wolves hit .231 as a team and recorded 84 digs in the comeback win.

Newberry carried that momentum into the nightcap, rolling past Barton 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 26-24). Schneider once again led the attack with 14 kills, and Carole Ann Hussey tallied 11 kills to go with four digs. Dill and Merryck Brackett combined for 33 assists, while Clayworth paced the defense with 15 digs. The Wolves finished with 46 kills and 60 digs as a team, sealing the sweep and improving to 3-0 on the season.

Newberry returns to action next weekend in the Flagler Invitational looking to build on its unbeaten start.
