ROME, GA – The Newberry College women's soccer team stayed unbeaten and collected its third consecutive clean sheet, defeating Shorter 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Ben Brady Field.
The Wolves broke through in the 31st minute when Mikaela Warburton buried her first goal of the season off an assist from Bella Gonzales. In the second half, Sandra Brennan doubled the advantage in the 77th minute, finishing a setup from Natalie Ruiz to put the match out of reach for the Hawks.
Goalkeepers Abigail Bernal and Kianna Burgos combined for three saves to secure the shutout, while the Newberry defense limited the Hawks to just five shots overall. The Wolves dominated possession and chances, firing 25 shots with 12 on target and earning nine corner kicks.
With the victory, Newberry improves to 2-0-1 on the season, outscoring opponents 4-0 across their last three matches. The Wolves will look to keep the momentum rolling when they open up SAC play vs. Mars Hill on the road at 2pm on Sunday.
