AUGUSTA, GA – The Newberry College Wolves delivered a commanding performance on the road, defeating Augusta University 11-4 on Wednesday night. The Wolves' firepower and solid pitching secured their 19th win of the season.
Newberry took control with a 15-hit display. The Wolves steadily built their lead, scoring in six different innings, including three-run bursts in both the sixth and eighth frames.
Leading the charge was Wilson Wages, who played a huge role. The left fielder finished 3-for-5 on the day with a home run and four RBIs. Kade Faircloth, Cooper Gentry, Jesse Free, and Carson Hayes also contributed with multiple hits on the day.
On the mound, Andrew Peck started for the Wolves, backed by solid relief pitching to hold Augusta to just four runs. Brayden Gilson was credited with the win, holding the Jaguars to just a single run across three innings, striking out three in his path.
Augusta opened the game with a quick lead, scoring three runs in the first two innings. However, Newberry responded quickly, scoring two in the third and pulling away as the game continued. Augusta struggled defensively, committing four errors that allowed Newberry to extend innings and capitalize on scoring opportunities.
With this win, the Wolves will continue play this weekend in a three-game series vs. UVA Wise on the road. Game one will take place on Friday at 5pm with the Saturday doubleheader at 1pm and 4pm to decide the series.
