NEWBERRY, SC – Despite strong efforts at the plate from Leah Evans and Madison Morgan, Newberry was unable to secure a win, falling 7-4 in Game 1 and 8-1 in Game 2 against USC Aiken at the Smith Rd. Complex. The losses put Newberry at 1-4 on the season as they look to bounce back in their next series.
Game One: Newberry 4, USC Aiken 7
Bethany Pigg hit for a double and with Taylor Palfrey gave the Wolves two RBIs.
Evans came up clutch with a two-run single, keeping the Wolves within striking distance.
Morgan added two hits for the Wolves to provide some fire from the DP spot.
The Wolves plated a run in the 5th to close the gap, but it wasn't enough as the Pacers closed out the game on 7-4.
Game Two: Newberry 1, USC Aiken 8
Maddy Staples provided Newberry's only run with a fourth-inning solo home run, her third of the season.
Ella Stone and Madison Morgan provided a spark for the Wolves combining for two hits.
Lex Glemaker pitched a great 2.1 innings of relief for the Wolves, allowing only one hit and striking out two.
The Wolves will compete in the Embry-Riddle Tournament in Dayton Beach, Florida where they will compete against Embry-Riddle, Florida Tech, and Auburn Montgomery form February 7th-9th.
