Box Score NEWBERRY, SC - The Newberry Wolves men's lacrosse team delivered a strong performance under the lights at Setzler Field, securing a hard-fought 13-10 win over Lander. Led by a stellar effort from Liam Vollans and Shane Halliwell, the Wolves overcame an early deficit to claim their second victory of the season.
After a back-and-forth first quarter, Newberry found themselves trailing 4-3, but the Wolves erupted in the second period, outscoring Lander 5-3 to take an 8-7 lead into halftime. Vollans was instrumental in the comeback, scoring twice and assisting on another goal during the quarter.
The second half was a defensive battle, but Newberry maintained its edge. Vollans capped off his outstanding night with two more goals in the fourth quarter, finishing with a game-high four goals and two assists. Halliwell also had a standout performance, netting three goals, including a clutch man-down goal in the final minute to seal the victory.
Ace Nichols contributed with two goals and two assists, while the Wolves' defense held strong, anchored by goalie Nolan Downey's nine saves.
With the win, Newberry improves to 2-2 on the season and will look to carry this momentum into their next home matchup on March 1st against Young Harris College.Â
