HARTSVILLE, S.C. – In a game that featured 18 lead changes and four ties, the Newberry Wolves put together a strong effort but ultimately fell 82-72 on the road Wednesday night. The loss drops Newberry to 11-14 overall and 8-13 in South Atlantic Conference play.
The Wolves delivered an efficient offensive performance, shooting 50% from the field (30-of-60) and dominating the paint with 38 points inside. Their aggressive defense led to seven steals and forced key turnovers, resulting in 15 fast-break points.
Drake Downs led the Wolves with 20 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Devario Sheppard made an impact across multiple categories, finishing with 19 points, five rebounds, six assists, and two blocks. Drew Robinson added 13 points and a game-high four steals, and Malakhi Stremlow was a force on the boards with 13 rebounds.
The game saw momentum shift frequently, with both teams exchanging baskets and trading the lead 18 times. Newberry's defense was disruptive early, turning steals into transition points, but a late second-half surge from the opposition proved to be the difference.
Newberry's next game will be this Saturday at 4 PM against Tusculum University at Eleazer Arena.
