NEWBERRY, S.C. – Newberry secured a 4-3 victory in the opener of Tuesday's doubleheader behind strong hitting and solid defense but came up short in game two, falling 5-2.

Game 1: Newberry 4, Emmanuel 3
After a scoreless first inning, Newberry struck first in the second when Brooke Hodges delivered an RBI single to bring home a run. The Wolves extended their lead in the third as M. Brown ripped an RBI double, followed by a key two-run home run from H. Campbell to make it 4-2.
On the defensive side, starting pitcher Natalie Wescott was sharp in the circle, throwing a complete game while allowing just three earned runs on nine hits. She was backed by strong defensive plays, including a crucial inning-ending double play in the fourth that kept Newberry ahead.
The Wolves faced a tense moment in the seventh when the visitors pushed across a run to cut the lead to one, but Wescott induced a groundout to seal the victory.
Game 2: Emmanuel 5, Newberry 2
The Wolves struck first in the second inning when Brooke Hodges drove in a run with a clutch RBI single. Payton Little provided another spark in the fifth, leading off with a double and later coming around to score, keeping Newberry in the game.
On the mound, Lindsey Foster battled through seven innings, striking out six while allowing nine hits. The defense turned two double plays behind her, with Haiyden Campbell leading the effort with strong play at first base, recording eight putouts and assisting on key defensive stops.
Mady Brown continued to produce at the plate, notching an RBI single in a crucial situation, while Taylor Palfrey and Madison Morgan each contributed with timely hits to put runners in scoring position.
