Wolves Drop Doubleheader to Carson-Newman

NEWBERRY, SC – The Newberry softball team dropped both games of a SAC doubleheader to Carson-Newman on Wednesday at the Smith Road Complex, falling 5–0 in game one before an 8–7 extra-inning setback in game two. The Wolves responded with a strong offensive effort in the nightcap, scoring in three separate innings, but the Eagles plated the go-ahead run in the eighth to secure the sweep.

Game 1: Carson-Newman 5, Newberry 0

Newberry was limited to two hits in a 5–0 loss to Carson-Newman in the opening game of Wednesday's SAC doubleheader at the Smith Road Complex. The Eagles scored once in the third inning before adding four runs in the fourth to create separation, while the Wolves left nine runners on base in the contest.

Katie Henri and Payton Little recorded Newberry's two hits, while Christine Butler reached base twice with a pair of walks. In the circle, Abigail Brewton provided three innings of scoreless relief with a strikeout to close the game for the Wolves.

??Game 2: Carson-Newman 8, Newberry 7 (8 innings)

Newberry answered early in game two with three runs in the second inning and added three more in the fourth before taking a brief lead with another run in the fifth, but Carson-Newman responded late and pushed across the deciding run in extra innings.

Brooke Hodges led the Wolves with one hit and three RBI, while Henri added a hit and scored during the middle-inning rally. Samantha Clark, Ella Stone, Christine Butler and GraceAnn Thompkins each contributed RBIs in the six hit outing.

The Wolves look ahead to the weekend when they host UVA Wise in a doubleheader on Saturday at Smith Rd. Complex.
