Winston-Salem, NC - The Newberry Wolves men's and women's track and field teams delivered a series of standout performances at the JDL College Team Challenge on Thursday, February 13. The Wolves showcased speed, strength, and determination, with multiple top finishes and new personal bests.
On the men's side, Shamar Brown led the way, securing first place in the 200m with a time of 22.80. Tavarian Thompson and Kalvin Tobias delivered an impressive 1-2 finish in the 400m, clocking in at 51.75 and 51.82, respectively. In the high jump, freshman Jeffrey Jackson claimed third place, clearing 1.79m (5-10.50). The Wolves closed the meet on a high note, winning the men's 4x400m relay in a swift 3:31.63, thanks to a strong effort from Tobias, Thompson, Brown, and Justin Canty.
For the women, freshman Leiyana Rose had a stellar meet, finishing second in the 200m (27.03) and contributing to the women's 4x400m relay squad that took first place (4:26.24), alongside Brittany Montgomery, Ruby Hansen, and Kamryn Adderton. In the field events, Meah Jackson and Isabel Farup tied for first place in the high jump, both clearing 1.62m (5-03.75), while Irma Watson-Perez dominated the weight throw, claiming victory with a mark of 15.74m (51-07.75).
The Wolves will now turn their focus to their next meet as they continue building momentum for the championship portion of the season. The Wolves will compete next on February 21st at the University of South Carolina.
