HICKORY, NC -The Newberry Wolves men's and women's track and field teams delivered a strong performance at the Southside Power & Fitness Invitational, highlighted by several first-place finishes and a number of top-five efforts across both squads.
Among the day's top highlights, Kenton Proctor led the way with a first-place finish in the men's javelin throw, recording a mark of 56.27 meters. Ryan Wright matched that success in the men's pole vault, clearing 4.65 meters to secure another victory for the Wolves. On the women's side, Cassidy Bouchard added to the win column with a first-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 1:00.42.
Newberry continued to shine with several strong finishes just off the podium. Olivia Hare turned in an impressive performance in the women's 1500-meter run, placing fourth with a time of 4:53.52. Drew Benson also earned a fourth-place finish in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, clocking in at 10:41.92.
In the men's 400-meter hurdles, Landon Tucker recorded a fifth-place finish with a time of 53.74, adding to the Wolves' depth on the track.
The field events proved to be another area of strength for Newberry. Cohutta Brown led the Wolves in the men's long jump with a third-place finish at 7.35 meters, while Nigel Landrim followed in seventh with a mark of 6.94 meters.
In the throwing events, Kiori Butler placed sixth in the women's shot put with a throw of 11.53 meters. On the men's side, Jhayden Gattison and Jaxson Moody finished ninth and tenth, respectively, with marks of 13.54 meters and 13.36 meters.
The Wolves will return to competiton next weekend at the South Carolina State University Invite in Orageburg, SC.Â
