NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Newberry women's basketball team put up a strong fight at Eleazer Arena but came up just short in a 78-75 battle on Saturday evening. The Wolves (5-16, 4-12 SAC) showcased an efficient offensive performance, shooting 53.7% (29-for-54) from the field and knocking down seven three-pointers in the game.

Newberry started strong with a 19-point first quarter, taking an early edge, but found themselves trailing 37-30 at halftime. The Wolves responded with a 25-point third quarter, cutting into the deficit with an aggressive offensive approach.

Jess Tomkins led the way with 23 points and seven rebounds, delivering a dominant performance inside. Jayla Cook added 15 points and three assists, providing a spark offensively. Marykate Kent was a sharpshooter from deep, knocking down four three-pointers on her way to 14 points. Ella Pearson controlled the boards with a team-high 11 rebounds while also contributing defensively with six blocks.

The Wolves out-rebounded their opponent 34-28 and displayed a strong defensive presence with seven blocks. Newberry will travel to Wingate for a 5:30 PM match.
