The Newberry College women's wrestling team opens their second season of competition Saturday at Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville as they will participate in three dual matches in the South Carolina Women's Wrestling Showcase.

The Wolves and head coach Donnie Stephens will face off against Presbyterian (2:00 p.m.), Huntington College (2:45 p.m.) and Allen (3:30 p.m.).

Newberry features a more robust roster with many faces in 2025-26 but return Dara Lin, Summer McKeen, Kaia Stewart, Celeste Welch and Grace Williams from last year's inaugural team.

Key newcomers include Lianey Hooper  at 124, Britany Gordon and Trinity Halls at 131, Mia Proctor at 138, Ava Hicks at 145, Gabrielle Cordes at 160, Irie Edwards and Shayanna Shell at 180 and Phoebe Jordan and Riley Stokes at 207.

Thirteen of the 19 Wolves are freshmen as the season kicks off Saturday afternoon.

Celeste Welch (110), Lianey Hooper (124), Grace Williams (124), Britany Gordon, Trinity Halls and Summer McKeen (131), Mia Proctor (138), Ava Hicks (145), Gabrielle Cordes (160), Irie Edwards and Shayanna Shell (180), Phoebe Jordan and Riley Stokes (207) are scheduled to be in the lineup during Saturday's three matches.
