NEWBERRY, SC – The Newberry College volleyball team battled throughout the night but fell 3–0 to opponent Anderson inside Eleazer Arena on Tuesday evening. With the result, the Wolves move to 9–10 overall and 4–8 in SAC play.
Newberry had strong moments across all three sets, particularly in the opening frame where they tallied 21 points and matched Anderson point-for-point early. Defensively, the Wolves put together a gritty effort with 46 total digs, highlighted by Anna Schneider's team-leading nine digs, while Annie Dill and Giovanna Ravanhani combined for 29 assists to guide the Newberry offense.
At the net, senior Madison Watson posted 5 kills while adding a team-high 7 blocks, leading a Newberry blocking effort that totaled 9 team blocks, matching Anderson at the net. Samantha Shaffer also contributed 7 kills and 4 blocks, while Jana Price and Schneider each tallied 5 and 10.5 points respectively to pace the attack.
Anderson's balance and consistency proved to be the difference down the stretch, as the Trojans took the match by set scores of 25–21, 25–17, and 25–15.
Newberry will look to bounce back as they continue SAC play on Friday at 6pm vs. Lincoln Memorial in Eleazer Arena.
