Newberry Secures No. 1 Seed in SAC Tournament, Clinches Share of Regular Season Title

HARROGATE, Tenn. — The Newberry field hockey team continued its dominant season with a commanding 6–0 shutout victory over Lincoln Memorial on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Wolves improve to 12–0 overall and 8–0 in South Atlantic Conference play, remaining the league's only unbeaten team, remaining the league's only unbeaten team and clinching the No. 1 seed in the SAC Tournament. Newberry will host the tournament semifinals and finals from November 7–9 at Setzler Field.

Newberry's offensive pressure was relentless from the opening whistle, recording 23 total shots and 16 on goal while holding the Railsplitters to just three attempts all game. Wibien Dahmen put the Wolves on the board late in the first quarter, finishing off a pass from Parker Keeler at the 14:53 mark to make it 1–0. The Wolves doubled their advantage midway through the second period when Keeler converted on a penalty stroke for her first of the day, sending Newberry into halftime up 2–0.

The third quarter showcased Newberry's offensive firepower. Emma Westbrook struck just over a minute into the half, followed by Dahmen's second of the contest less than two minutes later. Amber Tozana capped the flurry with a goal off a penalty corner at 38:38, stretching the lead to 5–0.

Keeler closed the scoring in the fourth quarter with her second goal of the afternoon at the 51:55 mark, securing the Wolves' sixth multi-goal game of the season.

Defensively, Ayanda Mangenah and Kensley Harris combined for the shutout, limiting Lincoln Memorial to a single shot on goal. Mangenah recorded the only save needed in the first half, while the backline anchored by Sofia UrzilloEmma Hulsmeyer, and Ella Allardicekept the Railsplitters without a penalty corner opportunity for most of the match.

In total, Newberry drew seven penalty corners and controlled possession throughout, holding Lincoln Memorial without a shot attempt in two of the four quarters. The Wolves return home for their next contest on Monday, October 21, when they host Coker University at 7 p.m.under the lights at Setzler Field.
