Anderson, SC – Newberry College's men's basketball team put on a determined performance on the road against Anderson but ultimately fell short in a nail-biting 60-57 contest.

Despite a challenging start, where they trailed 27-15 at halftime, the Wolves mounted an impressive comeback in the second half, outscoring the Trojans 42-33 and nearly stealing the victory. Devario Sheppard was the driving force for Newberry, scoring a career-high 24 points on 9-of-19 shooting, including three three-pointers. He was flawless from the free-throw line, going 3-for-3, and added three rebounds. Sheppard's offensive brilliance was especially evident in the second half, where he hit clutch shots to keep the Wolves within striking distance.

Malakhi Stremlow was instrumental on the glass, pulling down nine rebounds to go along with his 11 points. Gyterson Louissaint provided a strong presence in the paint, grabbing six rebounds and adding five points, including an energizing dunk that highlighted Newberry's second-half surge. Drew Robinson chipped in with five rebounds and four points, while Booker Cusaac brought energy off the bench, contributing four points and four rebounds.

Despite the loss, Newberry's defense stood out, forcing 10 turnovers and recording five steals. Their ability to capitalize on these moments translated into 10 points off turnovers, and they held their own in the paint with 28 points scored inside.

Now 6-7 overall and 3-6 in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) play, the Wolves will return to their home court on January 11th to face the Eagles of Carson-Newman in a 2 p.m. tip-off.
