SALISBURY, N.C. – The Newberry Wolves put up an impressive offensive effort on the road but ultimately fell 90-83 to Catawba.
Newberry (8-11, 5-10 SAC) went into halftime with a 39-37 lead, capitalizing on strong free-throw shooting and balanced scoring. The Wolves converted 24-of-27 attempts from the line and had four players reach double figures.
Devario Sheppard led the way with 19 points, hitting 6-of-14 from the field and 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.
Drew Robinson followed with 17 points, including a pair of three-pointers, while
Malakhi Stremlow recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Drake Downs added 10 points on an efficient 4-of-6 shooting night.
The Wolves dominated inside, scoring 36 points in the paint and securing 15 second-chance points off 12 offensive rebounds. Though the game remained tight in the second half, Newberry continued to battle until the final buzzer.
Newberry will return home on February 1st to face the Wingate Bulldogs at 4:00 PM in another South Atlantic Conference showdown.
