GREENVILLE, SC -- The Newberry College Men's and Women's cross country teams both finished fourth in their first meets of the season, at the Bruins Night Classic, hosted by Bob Jones University. The Men's team scored a total of 82 points and the Women's team scored 101 points.
Sophomore
Tyler Shumate had an outstanding performance placing 1st in the six kilometer men's race with a time of 20:29.1, an average mile of 5:29.5, and a score of 1.
Junior
Braylon Reier placed 19th in the six kilometer men's race, with a time of 21.48.6, an average mile of 5:40.8, and a score of 16.

As a freshman, Addie Davis placed 8th in the 4 kilometer women's race in an impressive fashion for her first collegiate race. She finished the race with a time of 16:57.4, an average mile of 6:48.6, and a score of 8.
Sophomore
Sage Bowen placed 16th in the 4 kilometer women's race, with a time of 17:51.2, an average mile of 7:10.2, and a score of 15

Coach
Scott Hutchinson expressed his pride in his teams' performances after both the women's 4 kilometer race and the men's 6 kilometer race.
"I'm really proud with the start of our season with both teams. Tonight was about competing and knocking off the rust," said Coach Hutchinson. "Tyler and Addie led our teams really well tonight with their performances, and we had a good packaging behind them. I'm proud of everyone's effort."
Both teams plan to build off this performance at their next meet at Converse University on September 21st.
