YOUNG HARRIS GA, - Newberry Men's and Women's tennis teams show dominate performances in the Young Harris Invitational 2024 Tournament.
Men's Open Singles:
David Negzaoui with a strong start to the day winning back to back sets. Both sets had an end score of 7-6, sending him into the semifinals. In game two, James Vincent kept the momentum, winning his first set 6-2 and his second set 6-1, also sending him to the semifinals. Negzaoui's run came to an end in game three with the first set ending 6-2 and the second set 6-0.
Women's Open Singles:
Emma Arnal comes in hot, winning her first set 6-2 and follows up winning her next set 6-4, sending her to the semifinals. Margarita Roshka sweeps the competition in set one winning 6-0, and has a strong second set win 6-4. With both women in the semifinals, Arnal comes out once again winning back to back sets, 6-4. Roshka didn't slow down either, sweeping both sets 6-0 and 6-1. This set up an exciting final with both Newberry Wolves facing each other. Both sets were close, but both ended 6-4 in favor of Roshka. With an exciting finish and a win for the Wolves in the Young Harris Invitational.
Men's Open Doubles:
Joshua Fritz and Negzaoui start off with a dominant performance in the first round of the open doubles, winning 6-1. More results are pending.
Women's Open Doubles:
Alexa Gamborino and Aina Miralles open up game one shutting down the competition 6-3. In game two, Hazel Vernon and Sofia Shaparenko's opponents withdrew from the match. This put both women's double teams in the semifinals of the tournament. More results are pending.
