Hartsville, SC - The Newberry women's tennis team turned heads at the Coker Invitational, securing the win in three flights and numerous deep runs across all flights.
Women's Flight B Champion – Lina Sarhan
Sarhan captured the Flight B singles crown with a determined run that concluded in a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Janka Juhasz (FMU). She then paired with teammate Hazel Vernon to win the Women's B Doubles title, opening with a 6-1 win and advancing to the championship after the opposing finalists withdrew.
Women's Flight C Champion – Hazel Vernon
Vernon stormed back to claim the Flight C singles championship, defeating Priscilla Landi (AU) 5-7, 6-2, 10-5. Teaming with Sarhan, she completed a perfect weekend by securing the doubles crown as well.
The Wolves' success didn't stop there. In Flight A, Yui Suzuki showcased resilience with back-to-back three-set victories before falling in the semifinals, while Margarita Roshka battled to a hard-fought opening win. Aina Miralles cruised through her Flight B opener 6-1, 6-1, and Renee Dorval powered to a commanding 6-0, 6-4 first-round victory in Flight C. In Flight D, Barbora Haviova added to the highlights with a three-set thriller, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.
With multiple individual and a doubles title, Newberry's women proved their depth and championship pedigree, setting a powerful tone for the remainder of the fall campaign. The Wolves will hit the courts again on September 26th for the ITA Southeast Regional.
