Kegan Crowell becomes the first ever in program history to go to Nationals.

NEWBERRY – For the first time in program history, the Newberry College track and field team will send an athlete to the NCAA Track and Field Championships, as senior thrower Kegan Crowell qualified for nationals in the discus throwing event.

Crowell will be competing in the Discus throw which is set to start Friday May 24 at 1:30 Central Time (2:30 p.m. EST) at Francis G. Welch Stadium on the campus of Emporia State University in Emporia, Kan.

Crowell won two events at the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships – the hammer throw and discus. In the hammer throw, Crowell heaved it 51.46 meters (168 feet, 10 inches). Crowell threw it 53.88 meters (176 feet, 9 inches) to win the discus event by nearly 15 feet.
