HARROGATE, TENN. – The Newberry College baseball team (21-23, 15-10 SAC) fell behind early in a 9-3 loss to the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial (27-15, 16-12 SAC) Friday evening at Lamar Hennon Field in Harrogate.
A few streaks continued for the Wolves tonight as
Henry Gibson would drive in multiple runs for the third straight game.
Donovan Ford would extend his hitting streak to 24 games as he reached on a single in the eighth inning.
Jesse Free was the lone Wolf to have multiple hits on the evening as he went 2-4 with a rbi.
Senior right hander
Trevor Linaman tied his career high as a wolf as he would strike out five batters in four innings of relief.
The Wolves would be the first to score as Gibson would make his way around the bases on an error by the second baseman and the right fielder driving in Compton to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
The Railsplitters would respond with five runs in the bottom of the first to take a 5-2 lead.
The Wolves would try to battle back as Free would hit a rbi single the other way to right field scoring
Bryson Nuckols to cut the Railsplitter lead to 5-3.
The Railsplitters would score four unanswered runs to hold on to win game one of the three game set 9-3.
