Wolves Spoil The Rail Splitters Senior Day

HARROGATE, TN - Women's lacrosse takes the victory on foreign soil against Lincoln Memorial (LMU) in a tight 11-8 bout.

The Wolves let the Rail Splitters start the day off, but were quick to retaliate. Scoring back to back goals to give the Wolves a 2-1 lead, Lana Howell opened the day up for Newberry, followed by an unassisted goal by Cassell Richardson. The first quarter ended with LMU tying the match up 2-2 with 1 minute remaining.

The second quarter was all Wolves as Newberry went on a four goal run before LMU crawled back within two goals to finish the period off. Howell found her second goal of the day to give the squad back the lead. Serena Elias notched her first of the day to extended the run. While man-up, Ella Todd took advantage of her free position and got her first goal to extend the lead to three. One minute later Todd found herself another goal thanks to a Howell assist, extending the lead to four.

The third quarter found Newberry's stout defense putting the foot on the gas and holding the Rail Splitters to one goal. Hanna Bond and Morgan Parsons both had a caused turnover in the period while goal keeper Mackenzie Dorr faced two shots, saving one. Lana Howell completed her hat trick with another unassisted goal in the fourth minute of the period. On a free position shot, Elias found her second, increasing the divide between the two teams. Exchanging goals, Cassell Richardson put the Wolves back up four with her first goal of the match with two minutes remaining.

The fourth quarter saw LMU make a hard comeback push. Thanks to Elias, the Wolves stayed within a safe distance despite being outscored in the period. Elias completed her hat trick on a free position shot six minutes into the period. Thwarting a high momentum two goal run in its track, Elias finished the day off with four goals, scoring in the last three minutes of the match. LMU would not let off a shot after this, sealing the victory 11-8.

The Wolves will finish off their regular season at Anderson on Wednesday, April 17th. The match will begin at 4 P.M.
