DURHAM, N.C. – Several members of the Newberry College Track and Field team competed at the three-day Duke Invitational over Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The highest-finishing Wolf throughout the week was
Kegan Crowell in the discus event. Crowell's throw of 51.74 meters (169 feet, 9 inches) placed him third in a field comprised of nearly all Division I members. Crowell was also 17th in the hammer throw.
Leonie Samuels led the Wolves women in shot put with a 13.02-meter throw (42 feet, 8 ¾ inches) to finish 13th.
Rahyme Christian finished eighth in the 110m hurdles with a new personal-best time of 14.28 seconds. In the 400m hurdles,
Shamar Brown came home ninth with his own new best time (54.35 seconds).
Parker Pitts set a new career best in the hammer throw, heaving it 47.24 meters (155 feet) to finish 16th.
The Wolves return to action next Friday and Saturday (April 19-20) for the Catamount Classic at Western Carolina in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
