NEWBERRY – The Newberry College baseball team (19-21, 13-9 SAC) fell to the Saints of Limestone University (19-21, 9-12 SAC) 2-1 Friday evening at the Smith Rd. Complex.
Senior right hander
Matias Marchesini went 7.2 innings, striking out four Saints. Junior outfielder
Donovan Ford went 3-4 at the plate with a run scored.
The Wolves defense turned two double plays in the afternoon both to end the first and third innings.
The Wolves would strike first as Ford would reach on a lead off single. After Ford would advance to second and third with a sac bunt and a flyout to left, redshirt senior
Henry Gibson would rip a double past the third baseman and down the left field line to score Ford and give the Wolves a 1-0 lead.
The Saints would score a run in the eighth and ninth inning to take a 2-1 lead and hold on to win by that score.
The Wolves and the Saints are back at the Smith Rd. Complex for a double header to finish the three-game stretch tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. Tomorrow will be the Make-A-Wish game at the Smith Rd. Complex.
