NEWBERRY, S.C.- The Wolves split with the Cobras of Coker this afternoon in their South Atlantic Conference double header. The Wolves took game one 13-7 and the Cobras took game two 5-3.
Game 1
Freshman pitcher
Lex Glemaker earned the win for game one, improving her record to 10-5 for the season.
Senior third baseman
Hailey Hill posted two career highs in game one with seven RBIs and two home runs in one game.
The Cobras started game one off tagging two runs in the top of the first to put them up 2-0.
The Wolves would answer by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead 7-2.
Cassidy Phelps started it off with an RBI single up the middle.
Maddy Staples also had an RBI single to center field.
Melanie Carr singled to right field for Staples to score.
Mady Brown was hit by a pitch with bases loaded and
Leah Evans scored.
Hailey Hill singled to left field and Carr crossed the plate.
Vanessa Wilson reached on an error by the Cobras short stop and
Mady Brown scored.
The Wolves would add four more runs in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 11-2.
Sierra Brogdon reached on a fielder's choice and
Maddy Staples scored.
Hailey Hill then hit her first home run of the game to center field to add three more runs.
The Cobras would shorten the Wolves lead by adding four runs in the top of the fourth to make the score 11-6.
In the bottom of the fifth
Hailey Hill hit her second home run of the day to center field to add two more runs for the Wolves to make the score 13-6.
The Cobras would attempt to come back in the top of the sixth, but the Wolves took game one 13-7.
Game 1 Leaders
- Hailey Hill went three for four at the plate with two home runs and seven RBIs.
- Maddy Staples went three for four at the plate with one RBI.
- Leah Evans went two for four at the plate.
Game 2
The Wolves had a slow start in game two. Coker started the game off with three runs scored in the top of the first and would add another run in the second to take the lead 4-0.
The Cobras would tag another run in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to 5-0.
The Wolves bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth where
Emily Perry reached on a fielding error by the Cobras third baseman and
Yahaira Williams scored.
In the bottom of the seventh
Sierra Brogdon hit a two-run home run to left center to shorten the Cobras lead to 5-3.
The Wolves fought hard, but the Cobras took game two 5-3.
