HICKORY, N.C.- The Wolves (22-22, 10-12 SAC) fell to the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne (36-10, 13-5 SAC) in a South Atlantic Conference double header this afternoon with the scores being 6-3 for game one and 5-2 for game two.
Game 1
The Wolves would come out firing with a lead off home run to center field by
Sierra Brogdon to get the Wolves ahead 1-0 to start the game. After two quick outs by the Bears, the rally would start again with a walk from
Vanessa Wilson. Coming up to the plate with two outs and a runner on first,
Cassidy Phelps would smash a two-run home run to right field to extend their lead 3-0.
With both teams going scoreless in the second and third inning, the Bears would come out of hibernation and score their first runs in the bottom half of the fourth on four hits and one error to take their first lead of the contest 4-3.
In the top of the fifth inning the Wolves would try to answer back but would leave the bases loaded.
The Bears would add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on three hits and three walks to extend their lead to 6-3.
The Bears took game one of the double header 6-3.
Game 1 Leaders
- Cassidy Phelps went two for four at the plate with a home run and two RBIs.
- Sierra Brogdon went two for four at the plate with a home run and one RBI.
- Mady Brown went two for four at the plate.
Game 2
The Wolves started off game two with an RBI single through the left side from
Vanessa Wilson to make the score 1-0 after the top of the first.
After a scoreless top half in the second, the Bears would answer with two runs of their own in the bottom half to take the lead 2-1.
The Wolves would strand two base runners in the bottom of the third to hold the Bears to a one run lead. The Wolves would start the top half of the fourth off with a single by
Bethany Pigg. The Bears would get out of a jam and held the Wolves scoreless. The Bears would build off their momentum in the bottom half and add two more runs to extend their lead to 4-1.
After a scoreless fifth inning,
Vanessa Wilson would come up to start things off for the Wolves. After getting her pitch with a 3-2 count she would hit a solo home run to right center to make the score 4-2.
The Bears would add one more run on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 5-2 and take game two of the afternoon.

The Wolves will be back at the Smith Road Complex next Wednesday to host Georgia College for a non-conference double header set to begin at 2:00.
