NEWBERRY, S.C. - Women's tennis clutches their match against Coker 5-2, topping off season day in perfect fashion.
Doubles play saw the pack come together to start off the day with a point against the Cobras. Court two with the duo of
Margarita Nikonorova and
Emma Arnal flew by their opponents with an quick and easy 6-1 win. Court three had a tie breaker which sent Newberry into singles on a high note.
Sofia Cardenas and
Aina Miralles pushed their match to 6-6 then overcame the Cobras in a race to 7 points where they played 7-3.
The first round of singles only saw one Wolf come out on top. Court two featuring Nikonorova had the lowest amount of points scored on her among the Wolves. Taking set one with an easy 6-2, Margarita improved even more and took the second set 6-1.
After the first three singles matches were done the Wolves were tied with Coker 2-2.
Cardenas made short work of her opponent as well, cruising through the first set 6-2. To remain undefeated on the day, Cardenas took down the Cobra with a finishing 6-3 set. With this win Newberry only needed one more Wolf to come out with a win.
What better way to finish off senior night than have the overall match come down to
Ish Singh and
Rosie Harfield. After Losing her first set Singh made a stellar 7-5 comeback to send the match to set three. Proving to have more gas in the tank, Singh made light work out of the Cobra, clinching the match win with a 6-1 set. Harfield was going shot for shot in set one where she came out on top 6-4. Set two started off bleak as she trailed 4-1. During this time Singh had yet to win her second set and things began to look rough for Newberry. Summoning all her strength, Rosie rose to the challenge and made a triumphant come back, going on a five point streak.Â
The Wolves set their eyes on Carson-Newman to finish off their regular season on Saturday, April 13th at 12 P.M.
