WINGATE, N.C. - Women's tennis drops their conference semi final rematch against Wingate 2-5.
Scores can be misleading the outside. Although a loss, Newberry proved that they can hold their own against top seeded Wingate when the conference tournament rolls around at the end of April.Â
In doubles play no pair found a win. Emma Arnel and
Margarita Nikonorova duked it out with Chloe Kosmrlj and Daniela Kotara coming up short 4-6.
Sofia Cardenas and
Aina Miralles, a duo known for their skill, went toe to toe with Annika Hakovirta and Claudia Vallejos coming short as well 3-6.
Singles saw two victors on the day coming from courts four and five. The first win came from Miralles who yet again put on an incredible show. Getting her get back against Vallejos, Miralles took the first set with an easy 6-1 followed by a 6-2 set.
Ish Singh was the second victor of the day, taking her win in two sets as well. Against the Bulldog, Singh had a tough 6-3 first set but an even tougher 7-5 second set, earning the Wolves a needed point.
Recognition goes to Nikonorova who was in her matches to the very end. Losing the first set in a tight 4-6, she kept the pressure against Wingate, unfortunately dropping the second 3-6.
The Wolves will look to bounce back at Anderson on Wednesday, April 3rd at 2 P.M.
