Wolves Slay The Dragons

NEWBERRY, S.C. - Women's lacrosse dominates the field, defeating Tiffin 22-5. The 17 point margin of victory ties the current program record that was set in in place against Emmanuel in 2022. 13 Wolves scored today, setting a new program record in individuals scoring.

Freshman midfielder Scythe Shephard led the Wolves in scoring today with three. Shephard was also the one of two Wolves to register a hat trick, scoring on 75% of her shots. Shephard controlled the midfield for the Wolves, winning four draw controls.

Junior Attack Cassell Richardson also led the Wolves in scoring, finishing off the afternoon with a hat trick. Additionally, Richardson added an assist, finishing off the game with four points, tying for first.

Sophomore midfielder Lana Howell tied Richardson in points, leading the team in assists with three and scoring one goal. Howell also won four draw controls for the team.

Kelie Saylors and Chloe Baker scored their first collegiate goals and Olivia Travassos scored for the first time this season, netting two.

Among the remaining seven Wolves to score were Serena Elias (2), Ella Todd (2, 1 A), Marissa Plumer (2), Jenny Bates (1), Morgan Parsons (1), Heather Johnston (2), Trysten Burns (1).

Defensively the Wolves saved three goals among the eight shots on goal they faced. Although they did not register because of immediate penalties, goal keeper Kaitlyn LaManna stuffed the Dragons on two occasions in the fourth, making sure to shut them out that period. Parsons continues to thwart the opposition, tallying a team high four caused turnovers. Shephard trailed Parsons by one, tallying three, followed by Julia Zayachkowsky and Madalyn Messersmith with two, and Plumer, Kaitlyn Mason, LaManna and Delaney Harrison with one.

The first quarter was the best for the Wolves statistically, out scoring the Dragons 8-2. Starting a four goal run, 40 seconds into the match Marissa Plumer drew first blood for the Wolves beating her defender and shooting before the slide. Ella Todd was next in line for a goal. Coming around GLE, Todd split her defender going right and was able to dump in a door step goal. One minute later, Cassell Richardson found her first, followed by Elias getting her first as well.

Off an assist from Todd, Johnston reignited the Wolves offense with four minutes left in the first. One minute later, Todd got her second point of the day, this time scoring unassisted. Shephard began her impressive scoring journey with 1:38 remaining. Elias finished off the first for the Wolves, scoring with 46 seconds remaining.

The second period started off with Howell dishing Johnston her second only 30 seconds into the match. Plumer would score the second of the period for the Wolves, finishing off a six goal run. Richardson starts another six goal run for the Wolves, going unassisted, immediately follow by an assist to Lana Howell. Getting her third point in two minutes, Richardson finishes the half for the Wolves with another goal, sending the game into the third, 13-4. 

Continuing their scoring run, Bates found her first of the afternoon off an assist from Howell, 13 seconds into the period. Baker earned her first collegiate point from a free position assist to Burns. Keeping the momentum, the freshman scored her first goal immediately after thanks to an assist from Howell, sending the Wolves sideline into a frenzy. The Dragons finally stopped the bleeding midway through the third, until Shephard had something to say about it. Three minutes after the Shephard goal, Travassos found her first with two minutes remaining in the third. Saylors topped off the third period with her first collegiate goal with 40 seconds remaining.

Shutting out the Dragons in the fourth, Travassos found her second, followed by Shephards third. The last goal of the game came from Parsons. Off her own caused turnover, Parsons scoops the ground ball at the 50 and takes on two Dragons, dumping in her goal.

The Wolves wrap up their home game stretch against Flagler on Wednesday, March 13 at 2 P.M.
