NEWBERRY, S.C. - Women's lacrosse dropped their Wednesday afternoon match against the eighth ranked Flagler 22-12.
The game saw seven different Wolves score, five of which scored twice.
Serena Elias,
Ella Todd,
Marissa Plumer,
Heather Johnston and
Cassell Richardson all finished with two goals, while
Hanna Bond and
Trysten Burns had one.
Todd also led the team in assists with three, followed by
Jenny Bates, Richardson and Plumer having one a piece.
The first period went relatively well for the Wolves, trading goals the whole period. After allowing the first goal, Plumer was the first Wolf on the board off a sequence involving Elias winning the draw control. Johnston came in second off an assist from Bates. To round off the first, Todd assisted Burns, ending the period down 4-3.
The second period started off hot for the Wolves, scoring two unanswered and going up 5-4. Richardson scored both for the Wolves. The first was off a sequence seeing Elias win the opening draw control, then get the assist from Todd. 20 seconds later Richardson got the second off the assist from Plumer. The last goal in the second was from Todd on a free position shot. Wolves trailed 9-6 going into the half.
The third period was a hard fought stalemate, seeing both teams score five goals. Going on another scoring run, the Wolves put up three unanswered to tie the game. Johnston got her second of the day on an assist from Richardson to start the period off within the first 19 seconds. A minute later, Elias took it in herself, getting a door stop dump. The scoring run ended with Todd getting her second free position goal. The next goal wasn't until five minutes later for Newberry. Bond got her first on the day on yet another assist from Todd. Wrapping up the Wolves scoring in the third, Elias claimed her second goal on a free position goal.
Plumer was the only Wolf to score in the fourth with 23 seconds remaining.
Bond, Plumer and Elias led the team in draw controls with three, followed by Richardson, Messersmith, Shephard and Watson getting one a piece.
Morgan Parsons had herself a day on defense, leading the way with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Richardson, Bond, Paulenko, Mason and Messersmith all caused one turnover.
The Wolves hit the road on March. 16th where they will take on Catawba at 12 P.M.
