NEWBERRY, S.C. - Women's tennis finishes their home opener with a 7-0 sweep against the Francis Marion Patriots.
The wolves started their matches off in doubles where two of the three duos came out victorious. Junior
Emma Arnal and sophomore
Margarita Nikonorova claimed the first victory of the afternoon with a 6-2 victory over the patriots. One-upping their teammates, the duo of sophomores
Sofia Cardenas and
Aina Miralles defeated their opponent in a 6-1 performance.
In singles play, the wolves made a statement, going undefeated in play. Miralles produced the most dominant performance among the wolves, winning in two sets, both 6-1.
Alexa Gamborino-Suarez cleared her opponent in two sets as well, with a score of 6-2 in both. The final match that was finished in two sets was by Nikonorova. She wrapped up her first set, 6-3Â followed by a 6-4 performance.Â
The remaining three matches came down to a tie breaker match. Splitting all of their two sets, Cardenas, Arnal and
Renee Dorval all managed to keep the sweep alive by defeating their opposition in the third tie breaking set.
The wolves take to the road on Saturday the 10th where they take on North Georgia at 11 A.M.
