Wolves Split Double Header with Braves on the Road

PEMBROKE, S.C.- The Wolves split the double header today against the Braves of UNC Pembroke. The Wolves won the first game 4-2 and fell in game two 5-1.

Game 1
In the circle, senior Olivia Chestnut secured her first win of the season for the Wolves this afternoon against the Braves allowing five hits and two runs in five innings of work with six strikeouts.
The Braves started the game off by putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first. The Wolves answered with a home run to left field from Hailey Hill to tie the score in the top of the second.
The Wolves scored again in the top of the fourth to take the lead 2-1 with a single through right side from Melanie Carr and Bethany Pigg scored.
UNC Pembroke tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with a single down the left field line for a runner to score, tying the game 2-2.
The Lady Wolves added two more runs in the top of the sixth with a triple to the pitcher from Maddy Staples for Pigg to score and a single to right field from Carr and Staples scored to take the lead 4-2.
The Braves would not score again, and the Wolves took game one of the afternoon 4-2.

Game 1 Leaders
  • Olivia Chestnut pitched five innings allowing five hits and two runs with six strikeouts.
  • Melanie Carr went two for two at the plate with two singles and two RBIs.
  • Hailey Hill hit a solo home run to left field.
Game 2
Both teams had a slow start in game two until the Wolves put the first run on the board for game two in the top of the fourth with a single to right field from Emily Perry for Vanessa Wilson to score.
UNC Pembroke followed with a run in the bottom of the fourth with a single to right field for their run to cross the plate.
The Braves hit a solo home run to left field to take the lead 2-1 and then extended their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth. The Braves then tagged one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning and claimed game two 5-1.

Game 2 Leaders Up Next
The Wolves will be back in action this Saturday at the Smith Road Complex where they will host Marauders of Millersville for a double header set to start at 1:00.
