JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. – The Newberry College baseball team (3-9, 0-4 SAC) fell in extra innings to the Eagles of Carson-Newman University (6-5, 1-0 SAC) by a 6-5 final score Friday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex on the campus of Carson-Newman.
Both teams will be back in action tomorrow with a double header starting at noon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex in Jefferson City, Tenn.
Senior Catcher
Rhett Jolly went 3-4 with a run score at the plate for the Wolves. Junior left fielder continued to swing a hot bat with three hits as well for the Wolves.
Tyler Chinpire threw five innings, striking out two batters in his fourth start of the season.
The Wolves and the Eagles would go through four scoreless innings before the Wolves would strike first in the top of the fifth with a rbi single from Faircloth to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead.
The Wolves would add two more runs in the top of the sixth to extend their lead to 3-0 in the top half of the sixth inning.
In the next half inning, the Eagles added five runs to take a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth.
The Wolves would fight back in the seventh and eighth inning as
Jesse Free would hit a rbi double to drive in Jolly in the top of the seventh to make it 5-4.
In the eighth,
Donovan Ford would score on a bases loaded balk to tie the game up at 5-5.
Nine innings wasn't enough as both teams would go into extras where Carson-Newman would score a run in the bottom of the 11
th to win 6-5.
