TIGERVILLE, S.C. - Women's lacrosse emerges victorious against the North Greenville Crusaders, 14-10.
An intense shoot out the entire game,
Ella Todd drew first blood for the Wolves in the first minute and a half of the game. After a tying goal by the Crusaders. three unasnwered goals were put up by Newberry. The first goal came off a free position from
Serena Elias in the seventh minute of the game. Two minutes later
Marissa Plumer fed
Trysten Burns for the second. Feeling generous right after a goal, T. Burns assisted Hannah Bond 30 seconds later to finish off the scoring run. Bond went on to score in the last remaining two minutes of the period from T. Burns again, wrapping up the first period 5-4.
The second period was all about the Wolves showing off their offense. Newberry doubled the Crusaders scoring in the second with six goals. A four point scoring run was initiated in first two minutes of the period by Elias off an assist from Todd. One minute later,
Jadie Burns hit a beautiful sidearm righty ripper off the goalies weakside hip. Eight minutes went by until Bond decided to complete her hat trick thanks to an X feed by Plumer. With time and room, Todd hit a sidearm laser from deep leaving nothing but a trail of smoke and a defeated goalie. Once the Crusaders stopped the run again it didn't take long for the Wolves to keep the goals coming.
Mackenzie Watson found the back of the net for the first time this game off an assist Todd. On her Opera game, Todd gave out yet another assist a minute later
Heather Johnston. The Wolves closed off the the half leading 11-7.
Coming out of halftime, both the Wolves and Crusaders cooled down, going 3-3 in goals. The Crusasders started off with a two point run that was stopped by Todd yet again, off a free position. A swift anser by the Crusaders led to the wolves closing out the third on a two goal run. The first came unassisted by Elias, topping off her hat trick night too. With :50 remaing in the third, Plumer found the back of the net for the first time, setting the fourth period up 14-10.
Shots were let off here and there by the Wolves from J. Burns, T. Burns, Plumer and Todd, ultimately, neither side found a goal in the fourth.
At the end of regulation, the Wolves doubled the Crusaders in groundballs, collecting 18 compared to their 9. Flawless on clears, Newberry went 15-15 compared to North Greenvilles 11-20. Nine wolves had atleast one caused turnover, with
Serena Elias leading the pack with three. Elias, Todd and Bond all registered a hat trick, while five other Wolves had a goal. A feeding machine, Todd led the Wolves in assists with three, finishing the night off with six points.Â
The Wolves will be back home this Saturday, Feb. 24 at 2 P.M. against UVA-Wise.
