NEWBERRY, S.C.- The Wolves (8-16, 6-10 SAC) won a South Atlantic Conference contest in overtime against the Cavaliers of UVA Wise (11-14, 7-10 SAC) this afternoon 56-53. The Wolves celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day and the retirement of two jerseys during halftime.
April Rummery-Lamb's double-double of 15 points and 17 rebounds and
Chloe Andrew's season high of 14 points led the Wolves to their win over the Cavaliers 56-53.
The Wolves came out firing in the first quarter scoring the first four points to get an early lead and maintained the lead through the first quarter.
Julia Paoletta finished the first quarter with a three-pointer to put the Wolves up 12-8.
Ryain Howard tagged four points in the beginning of the second quarter to put the Wolves with a bigger lead of 16-8. UVA Wise answered with a 6-0 run to tie the score and then took the lead 22-26. The Wolves battled to keep the score close 23-19.
In the point for point battle in the third quarter the Wolves outscored the Cavaliers 20-16. The Wolves battled with the Cavaliers and took the lead with a 5-0 run, but the Cavaliers tied the game 39-39 with six seconds remaining.
The two teams continued to battle, holding each other to seven points in the fourth quarter to result in another tie of 46-46 to go into to overtime.
The Wolves trailed in the beginning of overtime and then came back with a 5-0 run to take the lead 55-52 with 22 seconds remaining. Both teams would tag one more point, but the Wolves would take the game 56-53!
