ROCK HILL, S.C. – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week this morning, and Newberry's Sarah Abumere and Irma Watson-Peréz earned honors in track and field, respectively.

Abumere won the 60m dash at the JDL College Team Challenge with a career-best time of 7.62 seconds. The win was Abumere's first of the indoor season and second career win in the category.

Watson-Peréz competed in the weight throw competition at two meets last week and won both times. On Tuesday at the Tryon International College Opener, she threw it 17.44 meters (57 feet, 2 ¾ inches) to win by over five feet. On Thursday at the JDL College Team Challenge, she had a 17.38-meter (57 feet, ¼ inches) throw to beat a field of 21 competitors.
