Wolves Drop 12-2 Decision to Tampa.

TAMPA, Fla. – The Newberry College baseball team (1-5, 0-0 SAC) fell to the Spartans of the University of Tampa (6-0, 0-0 SSC) this afternoon at the UT Baseball field on the campus of the University of Tampa.
 
The Wolves are back at the Smith Rd. Complex Wednesday evening as they host the Indians of Catawba College for a non-conference game.
 
Senior right fielder Jacob LeBron went 2-4 and stole one base in the leadoff spot for the Wolves. Luke Compton, and Bryson Nuckols added their first career rbis this afternoon for the Wolves. Throughout the series, the Wolves would hold the Spartans to their two lowest run totals on the season at 8 and 12 runs.
 
The Wolves would strike first in the top of the second as Hunter French would hit a lead off single to start the inning. French would get to second and third on two straight ground outs to first. With two outs and a runner on third, Bryson Nuckols would rip a 2-0 pitch to left field, driving in French to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead.
 
The Spartans would respond in the third with five runs to make it 5-1.
 
In the top of the sixth, K.J. Leshko would get a one out single up the middle. Leshko would move to second on a ground out and to third on a wild pitch. After the wild pitch, Compton would hit one up the middle to drive in Leshko to cut the Spartan lead to three runs.
 
After that, Tampa would add eight unanswered runs to take their sixth win by a 12-2 score.
