TAMPA, Fla. – The Newberry College baseball team (1-4, 0-0 SAC) fell to the Spartans of the University of Tampa (4-0, 0-0 SSC) 24-2 on Saturday afternoon in Tampa.
The two will be back at it tomorrow for the final game of the three-game series at noon.
K.J Leshko went 2-3 on the afternoon with two singles in the nine spot.
Rhett Jolly scored both runs for the Wolves on the afternoon.
Kade Faircloth had two rbis for the Wolves.
The Spartans scored four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-0 lead. The Wolves would answer back in the top of the second as
Rhett Jolly would get a single and advance to second off an errant throw from the Spartan third baseman.
Henry Gibson would bunt Jolly to third, then Faircloth would collect his first of two rbis with a rbi groundout too short to make it 4-1.
The second Wolf run of the day came in the sixth inning coming from the middle of the order when
Jacob LeBron led off the inning with a walk. Jolly would then reach with a fielder's choice. Gibson would rip a double the other way to move Jolly to third. Then Faircloth would collect his second rbi of the afternoon with a sac fly to left field to bring in Jolly.
