DUE WEST, S.C. - Women's tennis starts their season off with a dominant 5-2 win over Erskine.
Starting Thursday's match-up in doubles, the women went 2-1 seeing victories from the duo of
Emma Arnal/
Margarita Nikonorova and
Sofia Cardenas/
Aina Miralles. In the first match featuring Arnal and Nikonorova, the duo won in dominant fashion 6-2. Cardenas and Miralles also follow suite with a 6-2 victory. Fighting till the bitter end, the duo of
Ish Singh and
Rosie Harfield forced their match to 12, ultimately falling 5-7.
The wolves went 4-2 in singles play, seeing victories from Cardenas, Miralles, Nikonorova and Singh. Coming face-to-face with a formidable foe, Cardenas finished her match in three sets after splitting the first two. In the third set Cardenas wrapped things up with a 6-4 finish. Miralles also was forced into three sets after handily beating her opponent in the first set 6-3. Following the second set, Miralles made light work of her opponent, finishing her off 6-2.Â
The two clean sweeps came from Nikonorova and Singh in which they finished both their matches in two. Nikonorova claimed victory after a 6-3 and 6-4 set. Singh had the most dominant win of the afternoon today, nailing her opponent 6-3 followed by a monstrous 6-1 finish, sealing the win for the wolves.
The wolves will be back in action next Thursday, Feb. 8th with their home opener against Francis Marion starting at 1 P.M.
