NEWBERRY, SC- Despite a hard-fought effort, Newberry fell short against Wingate in a thrilling 74-70 contest, with the Bulldogs holding on for the narrow victory. The Wolves' record now stands at 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the South Atlantic Conference.

With the clock winding down in the first half, Newberry's
James Lovorn stunned the crowd by draining a deep half-court 3-pointer, giving the Wolves a 36-32 lead as they headed into halftime. Lovorn's electrifying performance continued as he finished with 21 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Drake Downs stepped up for the Wolves, posting 14 points and 9 rebounds, while
Drew Robinson added 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Booker Cusaac also made his mark, contributing 10 points and 7 rebounds to the team's efforts.

Newberry managed to maintain the lead throughout much of the first half, but Wingate mounted a strong comeback in the second, with the two teams exchanging the lead nine times in the final period, adding to the four lead changes in the first half.
