NEWBERRY, SC- Despite a hard-fought effort, Newberry fell short against Wingate in a thrilling 74-70 contest, with the Bulldogs holding on for the narrow victory. The Wolves' record now stands at 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the South Atlantic Conference.
 
With the clock winding down in the first half, Newberry's James Lovorn stunned the crowd by draining a deep half-court 3-pointer, giving the Wolves a 36-32 lead as they headed into halftime. Lovorn's electrifying performance continued as he finished with 21 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.
 
Drake Downs stepped up for the Wolves, posting 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Drew Robinson added 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Booker Cusaac also made his mark, contributing 10 points and 7 rebounds to the team's efforts.
 
Newberry managed to maintain the lead throughout much of the first half, but Wingate mounted a strong comeback in the second, with the two teams exchanging the lead nine times in the final period, adding to the four lead changes in the first half.
 
The Wolves finished with a 53.8% mark from the free-throw line and shot over 40% from both the field and beyond the arc.
 
The Wolves capitalized on 22 points off turnovers and outscored the Bulldogs by 16 points 
 
Newberry will compete again on December 11th in a 7:30 matchup against UVA Wise.
