ROCK HILL, S.C.- The Newberry Softball team has been picked seventh in the 2024 South Atlantic Conference Coaches Poll.

The Wolves received 82 points where they tied for seventh with Catawba.

In the lead of this year's preseason poll in Wingate with 11 first place votes and 143 points, in second is Lenoir-Rhyne with 129 points.

The Wolves had five athletes on the preseason all-conference team with one first team honoree, one second team honoree, and three third team honorees.

Pitcher Olivia Chestnut received first team all-SAC honors. Chestnut started 17 games and had 11 wins in her 2023 season striking out 150 batters and holding opposing hitters to .223 batting average.

Mackenzie Turner received second team all-SAC honors for Catcher and Designated Player. Turner had a .383 batting average in the 2023 season where she drove in 16 runs for the Wolves. Turner also had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage behind the plate.

Outfielder Leah Evans, First Baseman Sierra Brogdon, and Third Baseman Hailey Hill received third team all-SAC honors. Evans hit a .387 in the 2023 season where she drove in 19 runs. Brogdon hit a .433, totaled seven homeruns, and drove in 33 runners for the Wolves. Hill batted .330, drove in 18 runs, and tagged eight homeruns.
