Wolves Softball Sweeps Wingate in SAC Doubleheader

NEWBERRY, SC – The Newberry softball team earned a SAC doubleheader sweep over Wingate on Wednesday afternoon at the Smith Road Complex, taking game one 6–5 before securing a 4–3 victory in game two. The Wolves used strong at-bats across both contests, including a huge four-run inning in the nightcap, to complete the sweep.

Game 1: Newberry 6, Wingate 5

Newberry used a four-run sixth inning to rally past Wingate for a 6–5 win in the opening game of Wednesday's SAC doubleheader at the Smith Road Complex. The Wolves scored in three different innings and worked nine walks at the plate before holding off a late push from the Bulldogs to secure the victory. 

Avery Ingram led the Wolves with three RBIs, delivering a key bases-loaded hit during the sixth-inning rally. Payton Little added a double and an RBI, while Katie Henri and Ella Stone each recorded hits. Christine Butler reached base three times and scored twice to help pace the offense. 

In the circle, Katie Kapusta improves to 7-8, tossing a complete game, allowing five runs on nine hits to earn the win. 

Game 2: Newberry 4, Wingate 3

Newberry scored all four of its runs in the third inning and held off Wingate the rest of the way to secure the sweep.

Haidyn Campbell led the Wolves with two hits and two RBI including a two-run homerun , while Payton Little added a double and drove in a run. Samantha Clark recorded two hits and drove in a run. 

In the circle, Natalie Wescott tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on nine hits to earn the win.

The Wolves will continue the last stretch of SAC play on Saturday at Lenoir-Rhyne with game one beginning at 1pm.
