Preview: Wolves Return to Eleazer Arena for SAC Date with Wingate

NEWBERRY – Following a nonconference matchup last Saturday, the Newberry College men's basketball team returns to South Atlantic Conference action with a home date against Wingate in Eleazer Arena tomorrow night (Jan. 3) at 7:30 p.m.

Scouting the Wolves:
•    Newberry (2-7, 1-3 SAC) is coming off a loss to Fayetteville State on Saturday afternoon.
•    Caleb Byrd paced the Wolves against the Broncos, scoring 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting with a pair of 3s.
•    Devario Sheppard, the Wolves' leading scorer at 11.1 points per game, scored 12 in the game.
•    Defensively, Newberry allows the second fewest points per game in the conference (74.9).

Scouting the Bulldogs:
•    Wingate (8-3, 3-0 SAC) has won four games in a row, the most recent an 87-82 double OT road victory over Mount Olive on Saturday.
•    Josh Massey's 20-point, 14-rebound double double led the Bulldogs against the Trojans. Massey is tied for the team-high in points per game (17.1).
•    Donell Nixon II, the other Bulldog averaging 17.1 points per game, had 15 in the game on 5 3-pointers.
•    On the defensive side of the ball, Wingate allows almost 80 points per game to opponents – 79.5 – which is tied for the fourth most in the SAC.
