GAFFNEY, S.C.- The Wolves (5-12, 3-6 SAC) defeated the Saints of Limestone (8-8, 2-6 SAC) for the second time this season this evening 60-52.
The Wolves came out hot in the first quarter gaining an early lead and maintaining it to finish the first quarter 11-9.
The Wolves continued attacking in the second quarter, with 10 of their 12 points coming in the paint including eight off the bench from Jess Tomkins and Caylin Moment. The Wolves would take a 23-18 lead into the half.
The Wolves would answer every Saint run in the third quarter as Limestone would only get a lead as high as two with just over a minute to go in the third, The Wolves would go on a 13-4 run to finish the third and start the fourth to get a 47-40 lead. "Limestone made some tough buckets and really got aggressive on the offensive glass." Head coach Joanna Tincher said. "We were able to lock in and get the consecutive stops we needed in order to pull out the road win."
With the score at 51-49 with 2:44 remaining, the Wolves would put the nail in the coffin with a 9-3 run to finish on top 60-52 forcing the Saints to shoot 1-4 from the field along with two turnovers.
Two Wolves scored in the double digits this evening, Deshona Gaither led with 14 points and April Rummery-Lamb behind her with 13. Tomkins scored eight points and tagged six rebounds.
Julia Paoletta posted a season-high of six rebounds in tonight's competition.
The Wolves bench continues to outscore their competition with the Wolves bench scoring 22 points to the Saints bench 11 points. The Wolves also outscored the Saints in the paint 38 to 22 points. "The 38 points in the paint were a result of us being aggressive on offense." Tincher stated. "Everyone made good reads and attacked the rim."
