ANDERSON, S.C. – Taking on the first round of the South Atlantic Conference tournament, the Newberry College women's golf team currently sits in a tie for fifth-place overall after the opening round as they were able to post an +18 306 over the first eighteen holes at Cobb's Glen Country Club.
The Trojans of Anderson currently sit atop the leader board with a 283 while Wingate (300), Limestone (301) and Carson-Newman (304) occupy the next three spots. The Wolves sit tied with the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial.
Freshman Nicole Strydom (Boksburg, Z.A.) sits the highest on the leader board as she is currently tied for ninth individually after carding an opening round 74 (+2). Sophomore Julia Järvholm (Umea, Sweden) sits just one stroke behind her with a 75 (+3), sitting in a tie for 12th.
Junior Sofia Liden (Uppsala, Sweden) posted a 78 (+6) in the opening round to sit in a tie for 24th while sophomore Ida Hansen (Oerebro, Sweden) turned in a 79 (+7), tied for 29th in the field. Freshman Noelia Adkins (Bristol, Tenn.) rounded out the scores for the Wolves with an opening 81 (+9) to sit tied for 41st.
The Wolves return to the course in the morning for second round action as they look to move up the leader board at the SAC Championship.
