MONROE, N.C. – Returning to the course just one week removed from their best outing of the spring season, the Newberry College women's golf team currently sits in eighth place after the opening round of the Surratt Memorial hosted by Wingate University.
Play was halted towards the end of the second round due to darkness with the Wolves making a move up the leader board as they sat in a tie for seventh on the day when play was called.
Sophomore Julia Järvholm (Umea, Sweden) led the way for the Scarlet and the Gray in the opening round of action as she was able to turn in a six-over 78 to open the tournament sitting her in a tie for 13th. Freshman Nicole Strydom (Boksburg, Z.A.) finished the first round in a tie for 33rd after posting a 10-over round.
Freshman Noelia Adkins (Bristol, Tenn.) sits in a tie for 39th, just one shot behind Strydom while junior Sofia Liden (Uppsala, Sweden) sits just one stroke behind her in a tie for 43rd. Sophomore Ida Hansen (Oerebro, Sweden) sits tied for 67th to round out the five scorers for the Wolves. Freshman Aubree Clements (Simpsonville, S.C.) rounded out the competitors for the Wolves as she sits tied with Liden in 43rd competing as an individual in the tournament.
The Wolves return to the course in the morning to round out the second and take on the third rounds of the Surratt Memorial.
