Scouting the Trojans: The Trojans enter this evening's matchup with a 1-2 overall record, including a home loss in their most recent game against No. 9 Wingate (Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine). In that 19-10 loss, Mount Olive was led by Chaz Goodman's three goals and two assists. Goodman is tied for the team lead in goals with five alongside Parker Chapman, who scored two goals of his own against the Bulldogs. Aidan Lalonde also scored twice in that game and has four goals through three games this season. Mount Olive does have the second-best save percentage amongst Conference Carolinas teams (.532), so the Newberry offense will have to capitalize on its scoring chances.
Scouting the Wolves: No. 12 Newberry (Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine) makes its return to Setzler Field for the first time since a season-opening, 19-10 win over Young Harris back on Feb. 8. In their most recent outing on Saturday, the Wolves traveled down to Jacksonville, Florida, for a neutral-site date with the Lynn University Knights and secured a 15-13 victory to improve to 3-0. Leading the charge for the Wolves in that contest was
James Osorio (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), who scored four goals and added two assists.
Mac Ryan (Lake Villa, Ill) and
Baker Westmoreland (Charlotte, N.C.) joined Osorio with three goals each to give the Wolves a hat-trick trio.
Scott Reed (Ontario, Canada) also tallied two goals to bring his team-leading total to 13; Reed has the fifth-most goals in the South Atlantic Conference. As a team, the Wolves are a force on the man-up advantage, successfully converting 13 of 14 such opportunities to lead the SAC with a 92.9% success rate.
