ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Wrapping up their first tournament of the spring season, the Newberry College men's golf team picked up a sixth-place finish at the 2023 Spring Kick Off Intercollegiate hosted by Lincoln Memorial at St. Johns Golf and Country Club.
The Wolves finished with an overall total of 11-over for the tournament, finishing as the second highest ranking South Atlantic Conference team in the field after the tournament champion, Anderson.
Freshman Javier Borrego Martin (Salamanca, Spain) and freshman Eric Nord (Blythewood, S.C.) each finished in a tie for eleventh on the week as Martin was able to post and even round of 72 in his final trip around the course while Nord carded his best round of the tournament with a three-under 69 to finish even on the weekend as well.
Senior Alex Pillar (Hawley, Pa.) finished tied for 30th in the tournament after posting a seven-over round on Tuesday, sitting him four-over par for the event. Sophomore Carlos Camaros-Ruiz (Madrid, Spain) turned in his second straight round of two-over on the week to finish in a tie for 53rd. Sophomore Tom Hull (Spalding, England) also matched his best round of the tournament with a four-over card in the third round to finish in a tie for 68th.
The Wolves will return to the course in just over a week and a half as the "B" team will take the short trip to Ninety Six, S.C. to take part in an one-day event before the team looks to the Spring Bulldog Clash on February 27-28 in Pawley's Island, S.C.
